I know a secret about you.
You desire things. The things that you want. Health, looks, possessions, relationships, status. You crave them and spend your days in their pursuit.
You despise things. The things that you don't want. Sickness, obesity, poverty, destitution, loneliness, rejection. You hate them and spend your days in their avoidance.
Wouldn't it be nice to become more effective at gaining pleasure and avoiding pain? What if you could have success and happiness fill your life and push your problems away?
This just might be the recipe you're looking for.
What is Success?
A good definition of Success is getting Good Things and avoiding Bad Things.
Everyday you attempt to play the game of Success. But how do you play it? What buttons do you press? What do you say? What do you do? How? When? Where? Why?
Oh, my that's starting to get complicated.
Infinite Activities, Few Results
As you know, most activities don't lead to Success. All activities are made out of Carbon yet Diamonds are rare.
There are activities that will get you your dream body and dream life. These are the diamonds that people who are living their dreams today have engaged in their past.
There are activities that will get you your nightmare body and nightmare life. These are the dirt that people who are living their nightmares today have engaged in their past.
Picking Diamonds
Deciding what activities to pursue is a process of going through tons and tons of dirt to pick out the rare diamond. The person polishing dirt will not get the same results as the one polishing diamonds.
The Secret Habit
This is the secret habit that will get you diamonds. Add this to your morning routine to get the best results.
1) Create your Bucket
- Grab a paper and a pen.
- Write down everything you have to do today
- Write down everything that's on your mind
- Write down every idea you have right now
Don't look for diamonds. You are just extracting soil. The idea is to clean out your mind and get everything down on paper. In the next step, we're going to be looking for potential diamonds.
2) Look for Diamonds in the Rough Ideas
- What here has the potential to change your life?
- What is important?
- What is not important?
- What are the things that you know you must do to achieve your goals?
Some examples of diamond-in-the-rough ideas:
- Eat better
- Exercise
- Develop skills
- Find new job
- Play
- Go out more
3) Polish
Now that you've picked your diamonds-in-the-rough. Start polishing them by turning them into actions.
For each one ask:
- How will I do this?
- What are the steps needed for this?
4) Embed
Now, you'll have brilliant diamonds - on paper at least - you still need to embed them into your life. Diamonds aren't much use just laying in your pocket, they only come to life when embedded into your Daily Routines like a diamond embedded in a crown.
Answer these questions
- How can I turn this into a daily habit?
- When will I do this? Exactly what time?
- How will I remind myself? Sticky notes? Alarms? Reminders?
The Jewel
Here's how you know if you did this right: The written daily routine that you have created must be so clear and specific that a random person should be able to read it and follow it perfectly.
